The Window

The Window. Single-Channel. HD. 20:30. Color. Sound. 2013.

A large window, which exposes the site and grade of the building serves as a point of transition and focus. Throughout the course of a day and evening, actors mark the axis between the window and the camera, as it tracks and zooms in and out. A range of relationships, social groups and configurations form and dissipate.

The Dark Pavement

The Dark Pavement (Yard). HD. 1:30. Color. Sound. 2013.

The Dark Pavement (Parking Lot). HD. 6:50. Color. Sound. 2013.

The Dark Pavement is a phrase lifted from Tony Smith's account of his drive on an unfinished portion of the New Jersey Turnpike. A touchstone of minimalism, his remarks set off Michael Fried's critique of the minimalist's use of theatricality. This group of pieces aims to tease out the idiosyncrasy of the urban landscape in and around the site of the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, with actors.

"It was a dark night and there were no lights or shoulder markers, lines, railings or anything at all except the dark pavement moving through the landscape of the flats, rimmed by hills in the distance, but punctuated by stacks, towers, fumes and colored lights". Tony Smith
